Decadent, Triple Chocolate Hot Chocolate

It has been ridiculously cold here lately. Much too cold to get outside with the kids. I always find it lovely to have an excuse to stay inside and be lazy, but also frustrating that we can’t get out and stretch our legs.

I felt like we needed a treat that would lift our spirits and warm our insides, so I made this lovely hot chocolate. I’m normally not a fan of hot chocolate, despite my chocolate obsession, but this felt right! Everyone enjoyed it until the middle child spilled his on the carpet, but that’s another issue!

I’ve made this on other occasions, including for Christmas Eve, served with a candy cane. It is always a hit.

Triple Chocolate Hot Chocolate

2 cups Chocolate milk (regular milk is fine too – we are adding lots of other chocolate flavour!)

3/4 cup chocolate chips (whatever your favs are. I used 1/4 each of milk, semisweet and dark)

2 tbsp cocoa

1/2 tsp salt

Whip cream:

1/2 cup whipping cream

1 tsp vanilla

2 tsp cocoa

2 tsp sugar

First add your chocolate chips and milk to the pot, and whisk on medium heat until the chocolate is melted and mixed well

Add the cocoa and salt and whisk further

Once fully melted and dissolved – it is ready

For the whipped cream, simply whisk the cold whipping cream until medium peaks and add the additional ingredients. Mix until everything is combined nicely , and it is ready.

Serve hot or warm, with whipped cream, a candy cane, a shot of espresso, or other favourite pick-me-up.
